Singapore River

A small 11 km long, Singapore River holds great historical importance. Since the city of Singapore grew around the port, the mouth of river developed as the main centre of trade, commerce and finance. Even today, the area around the old river mouth is considered to be the most expensive and most economic area of the country.

Telling the tale of Singapore, Singapore River mystically depicts the rising fortune of the place. It tells how a fishing village has grown into one of the busiest trade port. The river has been a witness to all those who came to this land as immigrants from all parts of the world and later made Singapore their home.

It is the place where you still find the most colorful and romantic glimpses of yesteryears to relive the history. Singapore River was the place where the Malayan prince first came and named the city. It is the perfect place to enjoy the memories through lighters and bumboats. There are still some places of worship like temples, shrines; located in the close vicinity of the river. Commercial areas like Clarke Quay and Boat Quay add more charm to the beauty of the Singapore River.
